Repair Hair after Heat and Hair Dye Damage
Hey Beautiful's!
It has been a long time since I've posted something on this blog. Between school, exams, and going to the gym, I haven't the right amount of time. Please forgive me, but continuing on to the post....
Hair damage is one of the major causes of hair breakage and a staggering hair length. I recently cut 3 inches of hair off due to the result of damage caused by dying my hair. Honestly, I was very frustrated when detangling and wanted to decrease the amount of time it was taking.
Iv'e colored my hair multiple times in the past and haven't had damage like this before, the only thing i could think of was my failure to do protein treatments, use of no heat, and deep conditioning treatments.
Because, when dying your hair, often times you have to bleach the hair which causes a removal of protein and agents in the hair cortex that hang on to moisture. Hair that lacks moisture = dry hair, and dry hair = breakage!
Therefore, to help comabt this issue because i love dying my hair(!!), I created a deep conditioning treatment that involves light protein, that way it can be applied every week. ( Which is very good to do if you are dying your hair!! Yes, some of the color may wash out but whats good the color if you barely have hair to dye? Protect your hair!!)
What you will need:
Coconut milk (one can of whole (organic) coconut milk, or that from an actual coconut) (1/4 cup)
Coconut oil (1 tablespoon)
Shea Butter (2 tablespoons)
Olive oil (1 tablespoon)
Vinegar (1 teaspoon)
Honey (1 teaspoon)
Thick Conditioner (preferably one of conditioning on protein, Suave is great!) (1 cup)
Mix all together in a metal bowl, apply to hair before washing and put on a shower cap, sit under a hooded dryer (or wrap a towel around your hair) and sit for 30 mins. Let hair cool 5-10 minutes before washing. Do this once a week for great results!
(mash shea butter, coconut oil and olive oil until creamy before mixing with other ingredients)
I have been doing this treatment for 3 weeks and my hair loves it! My only regret is cutting off hair before I tried to fix the problem.
